Activity #3: What Should Your Cloud Say?
In the last post, everyone talked about how the art in the stairwell will make the campus better used--we'll take the stairs instead of the elevator. Also, it will create more fun and expose students to art and images. The fun, the beauty, the use of the elevator, the increased health, that's all part of making the stairwell more sustainable.
But what would you like your cloud to say? What will inspire, stop, make someone think...whatever as they walk up the stairs? You could put a a word, a phrase, a quote...what are you thinking of putting on your cloud?

Activity #1: How does art in the stairwell make the campus more sustainable?
The definition of the word "sustainability" is somewhat complex. When people say that we need to create a more "sustainable" world, they usually mean something about "greening" the world. Here is one definition from Wikipedia:
"Sustainabilty is: improving the quality of human life while living within the carrying capacity of supporting eco-systems.[19]"
Think about this definition (or look at others explained on the Wikipedia entry for sustainability) and post a comment explaining how you think art in the stairwell develops our ability as a campus and or community to be sustainable. In other words, connect the idea of sustainability with the stairwell art project. If you use another definition, please explain it.

Michelle's proposal images
First, Michelle Weinberg, the artist, had to communicate her ideas to the Hialeah Green Team. Her proposal included written concepts - about clouds being the mountains of Miami; wanting to inject some air and light into the stairwell, and her desire to set up a game-like project with many participants all contributing. But more importantly, images of the project had to be presented, so that anyone could envision the final result. Check them out -

Digital Cloud Writing
Check out this cool way to do skywriting - those of you who know Photoshop - I can show you!
Check this site.
Let's get started
Hi all - Michelle is posting for the first time. Looking forward to getting started with our mural group tomorrow. Think about clouds as symbols, clouds as wisps of thought, clouds as text balloons in a cosmic comic strip, clouds as floating logos for the universe's products.
We will find cloud images in print and online, trace their goofy contours, transform them, repeat them, and then turn off the lights and project them - see what happens.
We're on a time schedule here folks. Gotta make it happen by end of March.
We can do it!
