    Reflection paper

The entire Stairwell project for me was a way of getting people to take the stairs instead of the elevators. However, who want to take the stairs in when they look like there’s something wait for you at the end. Although, for the most part I believe that due to the tremendous amount of work, people will indeed take the stairs more often, making them a lot healthier.
During this project I participated in painting the letters and painting the black shadow on them. Which made me realize painting takes a very steady hand and can be nerve recking when you mess up or spill something. Furthermore, the experience help my painting techniques so I can use the later in life. Also, my favorite cloud painting was the thunder bolt between the two clouds and the mushroom. I participated in the stairwell project on April 6th, which started at 1and ended at 6. When I first got there a lot of progress had been made on the stairwell, so I didn’t really get a chance to paint my own special cloud … oh well. Yet my message got across in a different way, “Sky’s the Limit”. This to me says a lot for example, “never give”, “you can always do better”, and more. Also, I loved using the latter to paint, mainly because I love heights.
Lastly and most importantly, after all the hard wok had been done we accomplished what we came to do, which was to add a little something to the community, to influence people to take the stairs. I mean everyone wanted to see them even before they were done, I lost track of how many time Amaris, Mr.Donis and I had to tell people that the stairs were closed. Yet every finished and left full and satisfied thanks to our hard work and the awesome pizza (thank you).

  3. The Stairwell project brought great ideas for our community college. It gave us the power to make a real change in the school. We had the opportunity to access in the wonderful art world of creating real paintings. I felt very proud of having the great painter Michelle Weinberg in our stairwell project. She helped us to develop a vision for where we wanted to express the new artistic creations and help the community with healthy changes.

The Hialeah Campus students that are expecting to go to class are now influenced with a new art creation. They are interested to observe and appreciate all the fantastic clouds made in the stairwell. This makes an important contribution for a healthier community among students. Not just for entertain our visual creation but also the encouragement of using the stairs instead of elevators. We all together worked hard to make our school looks better and at the same time provide an healthy environment for all teachers, students and employees at school. This project motivated all the students to have an interest in art, specially in paintings. I’m very grateful to Michelle, she helped me painting my clouds and learning very useful techniques. She gave me several tips to accomplish a clean and organized work avoiding spilling accidents. I really enjoyed my four hours shifts doing something I’ve never thought I would be able to create. I named my cloud “Dream” because for me any dream has a deep meaning. Some dreams are fun, or silly or simply scary but are memories that come to my brain in a special moment, when I’m sleeping. I think some dreams are objects to interpret them depending the place, the people and life situations.

The art work made in the stairwell has called the attention of everybody. People feel more dynamic and use the stairs more often than before. Making this way more energetic for the health style we tend to eliminate the lack of exercise and improving our health community. We helped to make our community more sustainable. There is nothing more pleasant than just seeing our environment in real balance with a concept of relation between our nature and the Human Work. I loved to work with my classmate, Michelle and Professor Donis creating an interaction with the abstract world, the art reality and the beauty of The Painting World.

  4. Stairwell Project
Contributing in making the school a more beautiful place is something that not every student takes part in. I can honestly say that I was very fortunate to be able to make the stairwell an aesthetic and more pleasant place for students to use. Beauty attracts people and that was the purpose of this entire project. Hialeah campus is a small building of only four floors which means that we can all use the stairs instead of the elevator. The main idea of making the stairwell more attractive for students is to minimize the use of the elevator and to create a more sustainable and healthier environment at Hialeah Campus.
I participated by painting and correcting the letters and clouds on the fourth and third floor. I worked on Tuesday, April 5 from 1 through 6. I was not alone of course; there were five more students and Michelle Weinberg the artist who designed the project. Michelle helped us a lot, she would tell us what to do, how to do it and reinforced our work every few minutes. All the students working this day worked really hard and we finished the project. I had a great experience and got to know a little bit more about the other students who worked with me.
I believe that the whole idea of the stairwell project is magnificent and I think that they should do it in all the stairwells. Making the stairwell an artistically beautiful place inspires students. Walking up or down those stairs make you read the clouds and since they all have positive messages it makes the students feel better. The elevator is just a box with nothing to look at, the stairwell on the other hand is entertaining and at the same time healthier for students and professors to use. The best thing about the project is that it’s effective and students are using the stairs more.
Last Thursday in my speech class the teacher was talking about how much she liked the stairs. Most of the students had not seen it because they are not used to using the stairwell. Professor Sinkoff talked a little about it and how nice it was which caused a lot of curiosity in all the students. Most likely every student in the class used the stairs because they really wanted to see what the clouds said and judge for themselves the artwork that had been done. Personally I was very pleased that the Professor mentioned the project in class because she attracted a lot of students to the stairwell.
To conclude I would like to say that I’m very proud to be able to say that I worked on the stairwell project at Hialeah Campus. I had a great time and at the same time I was helping make this campus more sustainable. It was very convenient as well because be obtained service learning hours for the project and this influences my academics. I think that Professor Donis helped his students a lot by using this project as our out of class activity and I’m very glad he did. We can all say now that the stairwell is an aesthetic, sustainable, and healthier place for all students and faculty to use.
