These pictures look really great. My favorite one is the "Loading..." one, that's something many of us have seen and it was pretty cool to see it there. I hope everyone likes the stairwell because I know personally that it took a lot of work and a lot of time to put all this together. I think all the clouds came really well together. another thing I really liked is how the shade of blue gets darker every higher floor, that was really creative.
HUM1020 Lenna Borjes Stairwell Project Reflection Paper This whole Stairwell project idea was a fantastic way of making our environment more sustainable and healthier for our community. Just trying to provide a new and colorful semblance to our eyes and entertainment is amazing. Art in the stairwell has provided the ability to be more in love with art as an abstract concept. I think the use of the word sustainable represents perfectly what we were trying to make of the project, because it is the integration of our activities, behaviors, and ways of seeing the environment. I personally contributed to this project with the painting of clouds, letters, the inside of stars, and the most important: the making of my own cloud with my own message on. I love my cloud. It says Loading… Normally, dreams don’t come true that easy. Most of the time we have to fight for them, defend them from pessimist thoughts, and keep moving on to achieve them. But they also need their time and space to become a reality in your life. That’s why loading is the prefect word to describe them when they are almost coming true; they are loading to your life. Thanks to Michelle Weinberg, on my seven hour shift I learned tips when it comes to painting. Some of the things were how to use the brushes without the draining of the paint. Also how to get paint off the brushes easier, how to keep ourselves more organized while we were painting, and how to always keep the brushes in the water buckets if we were not using them, in order to stop them from drying. I also ate pizza, which was delicious, by the way. In addition, we listened to some piano music played by Professor Donis, and had a really good time of experiencing new things and learning many others. In conclusion, I think the stairwell looks really pretty now, and contributes perfectly to a healthier Hialeah. I am sure more people are going to use the stairs more often, just to take a look at what we did. By this I mean people would exercise a little bit more and get healthier by the quicker they get use to do it daily. I hope all this make our community and classmates think a little bit more about the importance of using our time and energy to protect our environment and the world where we live.
Reflection Paper Well, all I can say is that this was definitely a great project. I was happy to be allowed to be a part of an art piece with a renowned artist. I took two shifts during this project and I must say it was worth it. I can honestly say that though I used to draw when I was in early high school, painting with a brush on a wall has its merits. As I have walked up and down the stairs this past week, I can see all of the work and effort that has been done to make this once flat wall, a true masterpiece. I must congratulate Michelle for inspiring us to help make such a wonderful piece, as well as helping us along the way to make the best possible artwork that we could have done. I can honestly say that I have actually heard students commenting about the walls while I switch between classes on a daily basis. Knowing that I was a part of that makes me feel happy that I was capable of having a hand in on something that the class and I helped to create. The stairwell project had great motives, and it had an objective which had to be met. I truly believe that this project nailed it right on the head, and that it allowed the people to see what an artist and a few students could do to change a drastically depressing stairway into a more lively, vivid stairway. The stairways main goal was to make it healthier for students as well as making it more sustainable for the daily use of students. we wanted to get rid of the use of the elevator, and get students to want to use the stairway more. In all honesty I feel like taking the stairway more now. Knowing that I helped create a piece of art makes me want to see it daily to see if I can pick up on something that I may not have noticed beforehand. The staircase was a given way of making students healthier, hence making them go up and down the stairway, but it is also lively and pleasing to see clouds when one is rushed to go to another class. The clouds promote pacifism, and they let others see that while the world could be rushed completely, it could very well also be toned down a notch or two by just looking at a picture. The stairway is sustainable because it is not, in any way disparaging, or even remotely disturbing. Clouds are a representation of thoughts, ideas, or even dreams, this stairwell has provided a glimpse into this as well as it has also provided a means to use wording on the cloud, as if each one represented an individual thought. I decided to show the cloud that I created, with the word "Inspire", because I believe that we can each be an inspiration unto someone else for something in life. Everyone has an inspiration, and sometimes, we end up inspiring others apart from ourselves. Different wording has different meaning, and each one relates to the college and to one's life in some way. Even the cloud with the wording "loading...." can be seen as a reality in life by the way that we have all seen or have been frustrated by these words on different electronics once or more in our lives. The pictures taken by the students do have a type of flair as they do show off the "art" of the stairwell, but I believe, as I stated in my response for the blog online, that the stairwell needs to be seen to be enjoyed. There is a certain way that you can view the Eifel Tower online in a picture, but there is a completely different feeling when you are physically looking at it in France. I recommended anyone who has not seen the piece to please go ahead and take a peek. I believe that the colors chosen were vivid, and inspiring, rather than gloomy and depressing. As I stated online, I would recommend that the other stairwells also be painted in a different artistic style, but with the same mentality in mind. A touch of positive interpretation of colors and art can brighten up anyone's day, and that is what I believe the current stairwell now brings to Miami Dade Community College. I took great pride in working on this stairwell and though I may not have talked much, I was able to peaceably relax in my own way while I put enthusiasm into what I was working on. I cannot speak for everyone else who had a hand in this, but I for one am content by not only working with an artist, but by being allowed to paint next to that artist, and say that I had a hand in helping her complete her original vision for the college. Again, thank you very much Michelle and Professor Donis on allowing me to be a part of history for Miami Dade Community College.
I really enjoy this project where I had to use my painting skills. At the beginning of the Stairwell project, we were introduced to Michelle Weinberg. She introduced us to the main concept of the Stairwell project. I think that the Stairwell Art Project created a new motive for everyone to use the stairs. The first assignment was to draw some pictures in a sheet of paper. These clouds didn’t have any requirements and could get any shape or form. Many of those clouds were paintings on the stairwell project. In this project we had to write some phrases or words for each cloud. These phrases or words are very interesting because no one get the same idea from them. Every people can imagine what it means to them, and every people can get a right answer for themselves. I also liked this project because during the time I was painting I met new friends. I believe that making stairs more beautiful has helped the environment here in Hialeah campus. Now everyone in this College could use the stairs rather than the elevator and have a good time in they try from first floor to last one. This project has helped the students, as well as the college, to be healthier and more sustainable in many ways .This stairwell painting has given me a great experience and would like to invite to all students to use the stairs and appreciate the art of this Stairwell Art Project. In conclusion, I am proud to be part of this project because some of the ideas that you can find there are from a few friends and mine, and those ideas are going to be there for a while.
Stairwell Project was a great plan to decorate the stairs of our college. All students in the humanities class put their bit for the project to become reality. Michelle Weinberg did a great job in her paintings and used many of the students’ ideas. I like her work since the day she presented it in class and showed photos of their previous work; I believe that her vision of how to paint the walls is excellent. Professor Donis organize the work throughout the week and he gave each student a job. My part in the project was taking pictures of the students’ paintings even though I would liked to paint, but I had to work the first two days of the week. Pictures taken were put on the internet and now everyone can see the work done on the stairs and the message we wanted to communicate. After I saw the photos I think the project took a good message to all students who use the stairs. Many students do not use the elevator because there are always many people using it, they mostly use the stairs. So now they will not see an empty wall and they will have the curiosity to read the message written on the wall and maybe some of the message will be useful for them. The project also wills beauty the school. The idea of the clouds is great because I think at some point in our lives all we look at the sky looking for or wanting something, and we always stayed looking at a cloud. The ideas of each student in the class will be in those walls and they will remember them forever and every time they came to the school.
Stairwell Project Reflection The staircases at the Miami Dade College Hialeah campus have been known to be quite boring. They were completely painted in a very dull color and had no sort of aesthetic beauty. Going up these stairs was very boring and most students and staff members saw no advantage to using the stairs over the elevators. With this project we painted one of the stairwells at the campus. The painting consisted of clouds and inspirational words and quotes. On Monday, April 6, 2009, between 1 and 4 p.m., I helped contribute to this project. I painted in several different areas of the staircase. When I first arrived I was asked to come later. At 1 p.m., when I began my shift, I talked to Michelle Weinburg who provided me with paint and asked me to fill in several words throughout different floors. When I was done with that we all stepped out on a break to eat pizza, where we all helped contribute and brainstorm on some more ideas as to what quotes we would include on some extra clouds. Getting back to work I began to start painting on some of the shadowing in the words that were not complete. Once all the words were completed Michelle asked to me to create my own cloud. I was excited yet nervous because I did not know if it would come out good. I began and as I progressed got somewhat more confident. By the time I was done I liked what I had created. Michelle then asked me what quote I would like to include and we agreed on my favorite, “sky’s the limit”. Whether it was painting in words or creating clouds of my own I felt great about myself because I was contributing to a good cause. Some of the paintings I enjoyed participating in the most were the words inside of the cloud shaped like a car and the cloud I created myself which was the one with the quote “sky’s the limit”. Completing these assignments I felt proud and a sense of accomplishment. I realized that I enjoyed this project more than I thought I would. If I would have more available time to participate in this project I would have because I believe it was a wonderful experience. This art work has provided the campus with beauty. We have transformed what was dull and boring into art. It is now something that everyone wants to see because it not only is aesthetic but it serves a purpose; it provides people with inspiration to continue and face their problems, whatever they may be. It has now become a beautiful mural that everyone enjoys. Walking through the stairwell now helps people feel good because they enjoy what they see and helps them find the strength within themselves to do their best in everything they do.. They can incorporate art into their daily lives by simply taking the stairs rather than going through the elevator. For this stairwell project we wanted to make life at the campus more sustainable. When you make something more sustainable you are improving the quality of human life and at the same time benefiting the environment. This project has made life at the Miami Dade College Hialeah campus sustainable. Students now enjoy taking the stairs rather than the elevator. This does both, improve human life and benefit the environment. Everyone who takes the stairs now incorporates some exercise into their daily life. They also feel more inspired to do their best in life and accomplish the goals they have set. If they are currently facing a struggle this provides them with the courage to keep going and do what they thought impossible before. With everyone taking the stairs, the environment goes “greener” saving energy and helping the environment. This reduces the amount of electricity which helps reduce pollution and provides the school with less money to spend on electricity. This money could then be used towards more important causes whether it is improving the value of our education or making it a more beautiful campus, making the campus an aesthetic virtue in our community, which this project has helped achieve.
