  1. This creative project isnpired me to do something out of routine. I really like all our painting clouds. It fascinates me how do I appreciate the art work using the stairwell almost very single day at school. I named by litle cloud "Dream" because everything that we accomplish in life is brought by a dream. I think dreams help us feel confident and more positive in life.

  3. With the purpose of repeating the idea of beautify the stairs at the college, but this time putting optimistic messages, professor Donis and his students made a very pleasant artistic place. The proposal came from an artist named Michelle. She had the idea of showing a sky and clouds with encouraging and positive quotes inside them. Our first assignment was to take pictures of clouds and send them to Michelle. After that we did some activities describing what art is and how this is going to make Miami Dade College- Hialeah Campus more sustainable. Once every student finished with the comments, they had to register for Community Service and then they are ready to paint the walls. Although I could not paint the stairs because my schedule was a little tight, I took pictures and uploaded them to the Web page so that everybody can see the final result and write comments about it.

I believe this was a great idea coming from the college. Art can express many things and it has a great value to many people. We can learn so much about ourselves and the world by viewing art. Every person has some feeling or thought that they wish to express but they are afraid to do it so art can help you to show your emotions.

I feel very happy to be part of this project. I think every school or college should have this kind of artistic initiative. Most of the people that are tired of working everyday and having social and economic problems can find a support or inspiration in these images. I consider this painting as a sample of contemporary art with a very pretty combination of colors and texts that can motivate and stimulate people. I feel that I contributed to make the college more beautiful. An empty place became an artistic place and I am sure that a lot of people are going to choose the stairs instead of the elevators.

  4. I actually enjoyed the stairwell project more than I thought I would. It was actually a very interesting project to do. I don’t really like painting because I’m really bad at it, but I still had fun. The reason why I had fun was because of the new people that I got to meet while doing the project. Funny accidents happened and jokes were told while painting the stairwell. Over all it was very fun. It is now much more joyful to use the stairs. I noticed many people stopped and took their time to look around and read. It felt good knowing that I was a part of something that people stopped and looked at. It is very pleasing knowing I took part in such a project. I sometimes look at the paintings myself because they are very relaxing and joyful. I am glad that the cloud theme was chosen because it is so soothing and inspiring. It feels good to give back.

  5. Let's Reflect Why Don't We
Mission impossible soundtrack cues in; a better environment requires a more pleasing view.
Sprinting wildly at the sound of the horn masses of people emerge carrying buckets of paint willing to give in to the task. The students of Donis would risk it all, put their life on the line for the honor and glory the assignment carries. From within the crowd one stands out, screaming battle cries and holding nothing but a brush on one hand and the silhouette of a cloud drawn on a piece of broken paper in the other. What you are about to read is the true story behind the Hialeah Stairwell Project, from Efren's view.
The morning was yielding to noon, and the offer that would later change my life was given. "All right guys, you either do a paper on some sort of artistic composition or you participate on an actual artistic development going on here in school. Si No? F contigo" said the man. As the words palpitated in resonance at the tip of my ears, before the slang was said I had already made up my mind. I knew I had to leave my legacy behind somewhere, so I had chosen to do so by helping out in the making of the stairwell in the west wing of the school, a bit more amusing.
After endless months of research, the perfect picture was acquired, the perfect perspective was drawn, the perfect idea was capitalized. Clouds and more clouds would decorate the dull walls that felt like they caused a small claustrophobic stroke with each entry. More than beautifying these walls, the idea was to expand these crushing feelings of the confined space into an open sky full of positive thinking, an open sky welcoming your every entrance. With tens of clouds and shades of blues, we were prepared to take on these stairs and do the impossible; give life to a dead setting. The plan was set, Michelle was taking over from now on out. We reported to her, commandeering a ship of creativity she held out her leading role as our captain. Oh and how we steered that ship into greatness. With her never-ending patience, Michelle led us through a remarkable victory. One us, Zero ugly stairwell.
The question of sustainability still stands on after the battle is won. Though we might have taken this win home, the fact is that in Hialeah a lot of work is still up to do. The hectic lives many of us lead in our city, makes for the downgrading of our ability to just stand somewhere and admire the view; be it the sky full of clouds, or a mere painting resembling it. Yes, I can easily say with our little project a step forward is taken, and hopefully is one to many more in the future. The fact that our stairwell now invites you in with a pleasant sight, just goes on to show how people work up to just enjoy those little moments. Little moments that can balance things in a more sustained way.
